BOXING fans all said the same thing after watching Jake hand Paul a title from the WBA.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer was one of several in attendance at the World Boxing Association convention in Orlando last month.

And to his great surprise, he was gifted a title by WBA President Gilberto Mendoza and Hall of Famer Bernard Hopkins.

Boxing fans were also amazed: “Boxing is becoming more and more distant from a serious sport.”

Another said: “This is boxing for you.

“Rewarding YouTubers with boxing belts for fighting retired MMA fighters. Awkward

And another said: “Boxing has so many meaningless belts, it’s no surprise.”

One remarked: “Ridiculous, that belt should be allowed CORRECT Boxers struggling day after day to become champions of this belt.

“Not for any YouTuber who has never fought a real boxer in a boxing match and only in exhibition non-competitive bouts TBH.”

Another chimed in: “Wow that’s shocking. Not hating Jake Paul. I like him.

“But the fact that a major boxing federation hands out a belt is more of a PR stunt.

“Is boxing really losing that much, give a guy who’s struggling for entertainment right now a belt to make him feel important and then at that?”

Paul, 25, was apparently embarrassed about getting the belt – which he vowed to use as motivation for his journey in the sport.

He said: “I’m honored. In reality, this means a lot. “But I feel like I haven’t earned it yet.

“I feel like I have to fight for it. I don’t know, I don’t know.

“Thanks. I think you guys should hold onto this until I actually fight for a WBA championship. I dont know.”

Paul hasn’t set foot in the ring since his decision win over former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva in October.

However, the problem child plans to return to action early next year – although an opponent for his seventh professional fight has yet to be determined.
