But Mbappe’s teammates couldn’t handle Martinez’s antics.

The wobbling, proud Aston Villa goalkeeper saved Kingsley Coman’s penalty.

He then won a mind games battle with Aurelien Tchouameni to bring Argentina close to the finish line.

Tchouameni, 22, had to wait ages to execute his penalty after Martinez threw the ball away.

The referee booked the stopper for his unsportsmanlike conduct – but the damage was done.

The France midfielder missed the target completely and Martinez performed a dance in celebration.

But Gonzalo Montiel then had the opportunity to win the World Cup for Argentina – sending Hugo Lloris down the wrong path to lead his country to dreamland.

Martinez, 30, had also made a crucial stop to deny Kolo Muani a one-on-one in the final seconds of overtime.
