According to the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF), the checks should arrive on July 25 and all should have arrived by Sunday.

The free money is part of a budget plan by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis that was introduced in July.

Who is entitled to the payments?

The money is intended to help families affected by rising inflation.

You must fall into one of the following categories to be eligible:

  • Foster parents
  • relatives
  • Unrelated caregivers
  • Families receiving TANF cash assistance
  • Participants in the guardianship assistance program

At least 59,000 families in Florida should benefit from this.

Families did not have to apply, and checks were mailed directly to eligible recipients.

A tweet by the governor’s spokeswoman, Christina Pushaw, presented a letter sent by Governor DeSantis’ office last month that said the money “could be used for everything from buying diapers to getting gas at the gas pump.”

As The Sun previously reported, some Floridians who received the letter initially thought it was a scam.

The money came from the $35.5 million Florida state budget signed by Gov. DeSantis in June.

The funds are part of an initiative called Hope Florida – A Pathway to Prosperity.

Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis is leading the campaign.

The aim is to help people to take care of themselves.

The program has been expanded to include foster and adoptive families, giving them a one-stop shop to call and connect with dedicated foster navigators who can provide support and guidance for immediate and future family needs.

“If a person has a problem depositing/clearing the check, they can call our payment provider at 833-681-3438 trying to find a solution,” a DCF spokesman told News4Jax.

For all other program eligibility questions, call the Customer Call Center at 850-300-4323 “So that their issue can be discussed and, if necessary, subjected to a review process,” the spokesman said.

Florida isn’t the only state offering tax refunds amid rising inflation and a cost-of-living crisis.

About a dozen states, including California, have sent out similar checks to fight inflation.

Meanwhile, thousands of Americans can expect direct payments of up to $300 this month as eight states have scheduled aid programs.

And Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf is again pushing for sending $2,000 in relief checks to low-income families.
