The entire family was wiped out after the plane crashed into the sea apart from the orphaned daughter who was at an overnight stay

A YOUNG girl’s entire family was wiped out after a plane crashed into the sea.

Newly trained pilot Christian Kath, 42, was flying a light aircraft with his wife Misty, 43, and eldest daughter Lily, 12, when it crashed into the water off the coast of Florida, United States.

The trio, who had relocated to St. Petersburg, Florida from Australia, had headed to the nearby city of Venice, in the US, for dinner and were returning home when the plane crashed, police said.

Christian and Misty’s youngest daughter, Harper, was staying overnight at her friend’s house when the blast happened.

The family had rented a single-engine Piper Cherokee for the short trip, but it did not return to its airport of origin on Saturday.

Police said Misty’s body was found a few miles from the wreckage, while Lily’s body was found on the plane.

Christian remains missing while rescue workers continue to search for his body.

Police Chief Charlie Thorpe said it was not yet clear what caused the plane to crash.

Christian flew to the plane and had previously posted on Facebook that he was learning to fly solo and making his first trip in March.

Venice City Police tweeted: “Following consultation with the Coast Guard, the search area for the missing pilot in the Gulf has been expanded area by area, but funds have been scaled back.

“Boaters from Sarasota Bay south to Gasparilla should be aware of the possibility of a body or small aircraft debris floating.”

Christian began taking flight lessons in December last year and said in a social media post in March that he was “halfway” with his private pilot license training.

In a chilling Facebook post, he said he’s looking forward to taking his family on a trip.

He wrote: “I flew solo for the first time today!

“I was so proud to finally achieve something I’ve wanted to do since I was eight years old.

“I started classes at the end of December and am now about halfway through my private pilot license.

“Thank you for putting up with my early morning classes and late night study of Misty Kath; it will all feel worthwhile when we can fly to the Keys for a weekend with Lily and Harper soon.

“Feel lucky to live and learn to fly in such a beautiful part of the world!”
