The character everyone ignores Britney Spears played in the way I met your mother

Britney Spears plays Abby, a receptionist at a hospital where Dr. Stella Zinman (Sarah Chalke) maintains a dermatology office, in the third season of “How I Met Your Mother.” She appeared in both episodes 18 and 19, titled “Ten Sessions” and “Everything Must Go”, respectively.

In the episodes, Ted (Josh Radnor) has a crush on Stella and believes she can be his “Ms. Right” as he attends 10 tattoo removal sessions at her office. But emotional Abby misinterpreted Ted’s signals and believed he was trying to flirt with her, not her boss. Ted tries to disappoint Abby easily, but she becomes enraged and plans to get revenge on him.

To that end, Abby used her best friend, the infamous lothario Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris). Abby and Barney – who lied to reception that he didn’t know Ted – teamed up, pretending they were dating. They go so far as to fake an engagement, which naturally happens right in front of Ted at the unimpressive MacLaren’s. Unfortunately for Barney, Abby now thinks their engagement is real, which means he has to separate himself from the relationship.

Spears showed some strong acting skills in this role. Sensitive, nerdy, and utterly absurd Abby is definitely a departure for the singer, and revisiting her performance on the show has viewers hoping that Spears will return to the sitcom world sometime some time in the future.
