A British company will launch a range of goods including alcohol under the name of soccer superstar Diego Maradona.
Podium Ventures have signed a deal with the late Argentina forward’s sisters, Lili and Rita.
Now they have applied to the Intellectual Property Office to bear the marks DM10, Lo Del Diego, OMFC and D10S under numerous classifications including soft and alcoholic beverages.
It now plans to launch beverages, food, clothing and games under the Maradona Global brand.
They also want to release a line of toiletries like talcum powder.
Maradona was voted FIFA Player of the 20th Century in 2000.
But the man who led Argentina to the world title in 1986 with his “Hand of God Goal” battled cocaine addiction and died of a heart attack in 2020 at the age of 60.
Panel leader Sanjay Wadhwani said: “I am delighted to have the honor of building Maradona Global to tell the story of a remarkable man.”
“From Media & Entertainment, Gaming, Apparel & Footwear to Food & Beverage and the Metaverse, Maradona Global has ambitions to create unique opportunities for brands to ‘work’ with Maradona again.”
Meanwhile, the shameless referee of the 1986 game is still planning to sell the winning ball at auction next month – which could win £3million.
