The Bimini Basin Project in Cape Coral is underway

CAPE CORAL
The goal of the Bimini Basin project is to bring a parking garage, apartments, shops and even a waterfront restaurant to Cape Coral. Now, that goal is one step away from being accomplished.
The project could mean an increase in tourism. However, time will lead some to oppose the Bimini basin project.
Bimini Basin just off Cape Coral Pkwy, close to Palm Tree Dr and Sunset Ct. Jeff Wilby lives in Cape Coral and says planned luxury apartments, even a wellness facility, would work well in that area. “This area is a bit of a letdown. It could use some work,” Wilby said.
Mark Minior also supported the project. “Well, we could use a few more restaurants. Hopefully, it can clean up some areas around here,” Minior said.
He hopes to have more options for entertainment activities. “I’m a boater, and it could be a Marina where boats can come and go, tie up and go to bars, restaurants and there’s some nightlife in the area, ‘ said Minior.
However, not everyone in Cape Coral is excited about the project. Norman Zurfluh says he’s worried about too much growth in the city. “I just worry about light pollution, noise pollution, whatever comes with a larger complex like this and even traffic,” says Zurfluh.
But, the project still has a long way to go. There will be at least two public hearings, which may last six months or more. Then, if the plan is approved, it will take about two years to build.
Minior says he’s happy the area is recognized. “BILLIONthis is a lot of very beautiful places in Cape Coral. he said.
The developer of Bimini Basin said he was prepared to spend about $80 million on the project. This will be his third development in Cape Coral, following the Cape at Savona Point and The Club on Pine Island.
