The best XI of Turkey’s league players including Dele Alli, Mesut Özil and Mauro Icardi after the stars’ names arrived in the summer

Turkish football has seen an influx of talent this window, with many former Premier League stars joining their ranks.

But who makes the best starting eleven in the Süper Lig? Well, SunSport will give you our answer to the question.

Goalkeeper: Fernando Muslera

At 36, Fernando Muslera is one of the most experienced goalkeepers in all of Europe and his impressive performances for Uruguay alone make him a permanent fixture in this team.

Muslera fully understands the role of the goalkeeper and helped Galatasaray keep 13 clean sheets in 36 games last season – the best team performance of any Turkish side last season.

Left centre-back: Romain Saiss

Former Wolves defender Romain Saiss has always been a reliable player for the Premier League side, whether at centre-back or defensive midfield.

He left Wolves in the summer and now plays for Besiktas, where he is unbeaten in five full-time games.

Center back: Marc Bartra

MARC BARTRA never really reached the level he expected when he was still a Barcelona player but after a few years at Borussia Dortmund he was snapped up by Real Betis in 2018 where he stayed until joining Trabzonspor this summer.

He has developed his game into a reliable central defender and is cultured on the ball. His presence was missed when he wasn’t at Betis last season, conceding eight goals in the 22 games he started.

Right centre-back: Sergio Oliveira

NOW Sergio Oliveira is admittedly not a centre-back but we think he’s just too good to be without this team given his numerous and immense qualities.

A veteran of multiple European campaigns, Oliveira was an integral part of Porto’s midfield for many years, helping to win three league titles before joining Galatasaray in the summer.

Defensive midfield: Lucas Torreira

THE next player on our list also joined Galatasaray this summer in the form of ex-Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira.

Torreira has always been a tenacious midfielder and when used properly, which was sadly sparsely used during his Arsenal days, he is one of the best ball winners around.

Left midfield: Nathan Redmond

FOR some dynamism and work tempo, we’ve selected Nathan Redmond in left midfield.

Redmond has proven himself as a top-flight Premier League player during his time at Norwich and Southampton with his directness and the industry traits of his game.

Left midfield: Juan Mata

THE Spanish magician, aka El Mago, really defined what it meant to be a creative midfielder when he was at his peak.

Unfortunately, Juan Mata’s time at Manchester United squandered his prime on the wing but his ability to choose a pass and stay calm under pressure confirms why he has a place in this team after joining Galatasaray.

Right midfield: Mesut Özil

TALENTS Mesut Özil could well be the best of this team but his career fell through at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta before joining Fenerbahce in 2021.

Last season, Özil scored eight goals and added two assists to his record – and he still holds the record for most chances created in a single PL season – before playing for Basaksehir this year.

Right midfield: Bertrand Traore

ALSO joining him on loan this season is Aston Villa star Bertrand Traore, who we’ve picked for right midfield for similar reasons to Redmond.

However, Traore is a trickier client and when he was given the tools and space to succeed at Lyon, Traore was one of Europe’s finest talents.

Attacking midfield: Dele Alli

DELE ALLI, like some others on this list, is a product with untapped potential and consequently his career crashed after a bright start.

A stint at Everton proved unfruitful for him, but the England star looked set to return to his best form in his second game with new club Besiktas, scoring a trademark goal from a late run before injury took its toll brilliant beginning slowed down.

Striker: Mauro Icardi

Despite his struggles at PSG and the drama off the field that never seems too far away from him, Mauro Icardi is a deadly striker and completes our team.

In four of six seasons from 2014/15 to 2019/20, Icardi has scored four seasons of 20+ goals and the goals he hasn’t seen have been 16+. He’s awaiting his chance to shine at Galatasary after he was loaned out but would prove to be a great asset to the club.

Some honorable mentions it missed:

(GC) Altay Bayindir, (GC) Ugurcan Cakir, Victor Nelson, Leo Duarte, Leo Dubois, Patrick Van Anholt, Arthur Masuaku, Gedson Fernandes, Marek Hamsik, Nacer Chadli, Dries Mertens, Maxi Gomez, Wout Weghorst.
