PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – If you’re looking for something to do with your family to celebrate the holidays, many things closed last year because of the pandemic getting back up and running.
Kidsburgh has a number of holiday guides on what to do, including a Guide to Ten Area Holiday Lights.
1. Shadrack’s Christmas Wonderland
If you want to stay warm in your car, there are plenty of lighting displays while driving, starting with one of the largest you’ll find – Shadrack’s Christmas Wonderland at Big Butler Fairgrounds.
You’ll drive past two miles of holiday lights, choreographed to holiday music on your car radio.
2. Pittsburgh Zoo
Shadrack’s is a classic light show, but if you want something new, this is only the second year the Pittsburgh Zoo lets you drive through the park among the animals. The zoo added thirty new exhibits this year. It fills up fast so get your timer ticket.
3. Clinton’s Christmas Lighting Celebration
KDKA’s Kristine Sorensen says her personal favorite is considered “Pittsburgh’s best-kept holiday secret” – Clinton’s Christmas Lighting Celebration.
It’s in Clinton, near the Pittsburgh airport, and it’s a one-mile journey through the woods. All are built and run by volunteers, with proceeds going to local charities. What is this hometown show at home about holidays.
4. Fun for all
If you want to exercise, you can play mini golf while enjoying the lights at Fun For All in Cranberry’s two golf courses.
5. Kennywood Ceremony Lights
You can walk through Kennywood Park and see Pennsylvania’s tallest Christmas tree and live performances by local dance groups. And it is said that the lights look even better when you spin around on the rides!
6. The Garden of Lights and Winter Flower Show at Phipps . Conservatory
The Phipps Conservatory in Oakland has one of the best shows you’ll ever see, with vibrant flowers and trees and an interactive miniature railroad inside, plus an outdoor light show.
These are just six out of ten local light displays. Go Kidsburgh.org to see the rest of the ten and for details about all of them.
