The Bachelor’s Pieper James is calling on the show to hire ‘different’ and ‘interesting’ leads after fans called Zach Shallcross ‘so boring’

BACHELOR’S Pieper James has urged the ABC show to hire “diverse” and “interesting” leads after fans repeatedly called Zach Shallcross “so boring.”

The network has come under fire this season for hiring Zach, a 26-year-old Caucasian tech exec from Anaheim Hills, California, after he promised to bring more diversity to the franchise.

In a new interview with former Bachelor contestant Pieper James, who appeared on Matt James’ season, Pieper calls on the show to go back on its word.

“It’s interesting to see how they kind of fell back into their old model… I don’t think it always has to be the handsome, traditionally hot guy,” Pieper told The US Sun before taking part in The Modern Day Wife’s What She Said panel at W New York Times Square on February 16.

“I think they have so many good candidates from so many different backgrounds who are rich, diverse people, just like their careers and who they are as people, just interesting people.”

Pieper, 25, hit out at someone like former Bachelorette contestant Dr. Joe Park, while her 33-year-old boyfriend Brendan Morais, listening to her interview, suggested someone like BIP star and engineer Ivan Hall.

She went on to explain that starring Matt James for season 25 is something the show isn’t prepared for.

“I know that the first black bachelor might not necessarily have killed for her, but I don’t think it was a fault on Matt’s part,” Pieper said.

“I think it was more of a show’s fault not being prepared to deal with something like that, because you can’t just kick out a black bachelor and say, ‘Good luck’ — it’s because you’ve got your audience didn’t prepare for this kind of show.”

GO ON, GO ON

After appearing on Bachelor in Paradise season 7, where she met Brendan, Pieper said she distanced herself from the franchise and focused on her new job as a social media manager.

She made it clear that she hasn’t kept up with the franchise but still cherishes her friendships from the show — she remains close to contestants Kit Keenan and Chelsea Vaughn.

“I feel like once you’ve been on reality TV and filmed it, you know the tricks of the trade,” Pieper told The US Sun.

“So it’s kind of hard to look at it as entertainment, and it’s more like you look at it and cringe, or you enjoy looking at it and you can kind of see behind the curtain.”

She continued, “And when I never watch the show before I’ve moved on, and then I watch reruns, and I watch it afterward, it’s like, ‘Oh, I can see how this was supposed to play out, and I can see how that was orchestrated.’

“So yeah, once you see how the sausage is made, you’re not really interested in eating it.”

‘HAPPIEST’ SHE EVER WAS

Pieper spoke about how she “has no regrets” about her time on reality television because it led to her life today, where she’s happily in a relationship with Brendan, at women’s empowerment events — like The Modern Day Wife” – can speak and has exciting projects in the works.

“I can honestly say I’m happier than I’ve ever been.

“Not to say I wasn’t as depressed as I was a few months ago, but I feel like everything happens for a reason and that’s why I’m saying I have no regrets,” Pieper said.

She went on to say in the interview that she doesn’t think it’s fair that there’s this pressure to get engaged after leaving the show.

“It’s like you got through this as a crazy shared experience and now you’re seeing how your life works in the real world and you’re going through real things together,” the model told The US Sun.

“I don’t think that engagement pressure is always necessarily fair, especially for couples who come off the show and aren’t engaged, because that’s not realistic.

“In the real world, you wouldn’t go on two dates with someone and be like, ‘Let’s get engaged.'”

NEW LIFE IN THE BIG APPLE

Pieper, who lived in Boston with Brendan, recently moved back to NYC for her new job.

They have historically done long distance in the first year of their relationship and will continue to do long distance.

Brendan has revealed to The US Sun that he has found a new apartment in Los Angeles and will be moving there to pursue his modeling career.

“I just love the weather, the beach, the kind of culture,” Brendan shared, adding that he and Pieper will still be traveling coast-to-coast to see each other.

“We’ll see what happens this year, but I wouldn’t mind coming [to New York] next year or so.”

Brendan will continue to support Pieper for the time being.

He flew in to watch her speak alongside Kelly Hughes of Sports Illustrated, Telli Swift of WAGS Atlanta and Jacqueline Fae, celebrity and millionaire matchmaker at the What She Said Celebrity Panel at W New York – Times Square.
