The Antiques Roadshow guest was left stunned after an old painting that was just “hanging there” received a stunning appraisal

An Antiques Roadshow guest was stunned to hear the stunning review of his old painting that was just “hanging there.”
BBC viewers were taken to Pollock House in central Glasgow, a large country mansion with an amazing art collection.
The guest brought with her an old painting by a renowned Scottish colorist named Francis Cadell, which had been given to her by her grandfather.
It had always “just been hanging there” in her grandfather’s house, she claimed.
The painting depicted the west coast of Scotland – with some beautifully drawn boats in the foreground looking out over the Sound of Iona, with the Isle of Mull in the background.
Iona is a small island in the Inner Hebrides, off the west coast of Scotland.
The expert told the guest that the painting was rare and Francis was “one of the most famous” artists working in Scotland in the early 20th century.
She further explained to the guest that it dates from 1913, which was “very special” since Cadell went to Iona for the first time the year before, in 1912.
The guest replied: “Wow.
The expert continued: “And he went every year for a few months for the next 20 years or so, into the ’30s, and he really put Iona on the map in the world of avant-garde art.”
The artwork was beautifully created by the famous artist using watercolors and “spontaneous brushwork.”
The expert then turned to the guest and asked her if she knew what it was worth.
The guest replied: “No, Grandpa didn’t say that. No idea.”
“I think it’s great that it’s just hanging there,” the expert said before announcing the rating.
She said: “It’s something like that, if it came up for auction today I would probably put an estimate in the region of £7,000 to £10,000.”
The guest was amazed at the stunning rating of the painting that had just been in her grandfather’s house.
“Wow, wow,” the guest said before laughing nervously.
“That’s cool,” she continued.
The guest then expressed how happy her grandfather would have been and how much he would have liked to have been there in person to receive the overwhelming appreciation.
