An SUV crashed into a power pole at the North Fort Myers intersection and severely injured the driver after tore the power line Wednesday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 44-year-old Fort Myers man was driving an SUV south on Barrett Street, approaching the Pondella Road intersection at about 4:15 a.m. When attempting to turn left onto Pondella Road east, the SUV veered off the roadway and collided with a concrete lamp post, sending power lines down the Pondella Road traffic lane.

The man was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Florida Power and Light performed repairs at the intersection.

The Florida Highway Patrol no longer releases the names of people involved in traffic accidents under the Marsy Law.
