The boy’s mother, Kristi, and sister, Ruby, were both hospitalized.

“My sister has a concussion and broken bones,” Edison’s aunt, Kelli Liston, said in a description of a GoFundMe donation page she created for the family.

“Kristi and Quinn’s eldest daughter Ruby is in critical condition in Primary Children’s Hospital in intensive care awaiting surgery this morning.”

The GoFundMe fundraiser launched less than 24 hours ago and has raised more than $100,000 for the family.

The tragedy of losing her son in the multi-vehicle accident comes eight years after Kimballs’ three-year-old daughter Lila died of a “rare syndrome” in 2015, according to her obituary.

“My sister and her husband buried their eldest daughter Lila 8 years ago and we cannot understand what is to come,” reads GoFundMe’s fundraising page.

The Utah Highway Patrol said the tractor-trailer was traveling west on I-215 when it struck the family’s Hyundai Palisade, which struck four other vehicles.

Nine drivers and passengers were taken to hospital with minor to serious injuries.

Utah Highway Patrol lieutenant Jalaine Hawkes told KSL News that most of the cars but one slowed or stopped in afternoon traffic at the scene.

“Unfortunately, that’s the car transporter [heaviest]the greatest,” Hawkes said.

“Most dangerous is the vehicle that was not stopped and was actually traveling at a higher speed and then collided with multiple vehicles at that location.”

UHP Sergeant Cameron Roden told the news outlet that no subpoenas had been issued at the scene Thursday night.

Roden said the results of the crash would likely be reviewed by prosecutors.
