A British woman has died after being mowed down in a hit and run on the island of Tenerife.
The 50-year-old woman was walking with her mother in the Las Chafiras area when a white van pulled onto the sidewalk and crashed into the couple.
The daughter was hospitalized after the horror crash on Sunday evening with severe head injuries, but unfortunately died on Thursday night.
The mother, in her 70s, has already been discharged from hospital after sustaining injuries to her ribs.
Police are still searching for the driver, who is said to have stopped briefly at the scene before speeding away after seeing the injured victims lying on the ground.
The incident happened near a housing development in San Miguel de Abona, south of the Spanish island.
Whether the British couple vacationed in the tourist hotspot or lived on the Canary Island was not confirmed.
Guardia Civil officers are working with local police to find who is responsible.
A regional government spokesman said: “One of the women had serious head injuries when the first medical personnel arrived.
“She was taken to Our Lady of Candelaria University Hospital in an ambulance.
“The other woman sustained moderate rib trauma and was taken to another hospital called Hospiten Sur.
“The 911 call we received said the two women were injured by a vehicle that drove onto the sidewalk.
“The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. Sunday on a street called Avenida Jose Miguel Galvan in San Miguel de Abona.
“The police are investigating”
