A mother fell 50 feet to her death in a tragic accident while her two children waited in the car to go on vacation.
Janetina, 36, reportedly went back to retrieve another bag from her flat but found the door stuck.
So she asked her neighbor if she could jump over to her balcony and come in there.
She is believed to have slipped between the third floor balconies and landed in a courtyard behind a block in Athens’ Pagrati district.
Neighbors said the mother of two wanted to take her children to her husband in Naxos on Monday evening.
She packed all her luggage, then her children, ages five and two, got into the car with an aunt, reports Proto Thema.
Then she realized she had forgotten a child’s bag and went back to the third floor.
She found that she could not open the door and was anxious not to delay the trip, the reports said.
She rang her neighbor’s bell and asked to climb down from her balcony onto her own.
The mother had previously jumped between balconies several times without any problems, neighbors said.
This time, however, she slipped on a loose tile and fell 50 feet, local website iefimerida reports.
An ambulance took her to the hospital, but she could not be saved.
Neighbors told local TV of their shock after the tragedy left two children without a mother.
Friends also posted tributes on social media.
Comments lamented the “tragedy of fate” and the “mistake that took her life”.
