IF YOU’RE preparing your garden for summer like many others, you might be thinking about getting some new solar powered lights.
But before you do that, there is one simple tip that can save you some money.
One man posted to the DIY ON a Budget Gardens Facebook group, sharing how to get your solar powered lights working again.
The simple trick is so easy and you only need one item that you probably already have around your house.
Stëvë Bonner, who lives in the UK, demonstrated in a video how to get your solar panel lighting working again.
He showed an image of his lights, which had a white cast on the plate that prevented sunlight from hitting the lights directly and lighting up.
Rather than go out and buy a new set, Steve recommended, “If your solar panel has turned white, just use a little bit of nail polish remover.
“It will emerge like new and your lights will shine bright again.”
Using a cotton ball with nail polish remover, the white shimmer instantly disappeared, letting the sun hit the plate.
The post was liked by hundreds of people, and many commented on how well it worked.
One wrote: “Definitely works, I do it every year with my ladies.”
Others suggested that toothpaste would work just as well to clean the record.

Many were grateful for the tip and wanted to try it out for themselves, one said: “I have to try it, thanks!”
“Thanks, mine have gone white and I was about to order a new one. I’ll try this first,” added another.
A third commented: “What a wonderful tip, thanks!”
Some people suggested that you might need to change the batteries in the light before the hack will work.
