A MAN accused of murdering a Crufts dog breeder has died in custody while awaiting trial, police said yesterday.

Alex Munoz, 26, was pronounced dead at HMP Strangeways, Manchester, on May 15.

He was accused of murdering Valerie Freer, 68, who died of neck injuries.

Paramedics found her on February 24 while driving in Whittington, Staffs.

Her Samoyed, Dan the Man, placed second in the Best in Show category at Crufts 2014.

Argentinian citizen Munoz was also charged with aggravated burglary, dangerous driving and possession of a blade.

Police said Ms Freer’s family and others affected by the crimes Munoz allegedly committed continue to be assisted by specialist family liaison officers.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.
