Around 5:30 p.m., the boy slipped on the edge of the natural structure at Hurricane Overlook, according to Fox 13 Salt Lake City.

The unnamed teenager then fell about 150 feet, according to the Hurricane Police Department.

Hurricane Valley law enforcement and firefighters later managed to climb down to the area where the boy fell.

They pronounced him dead at the scene.

Authorities have yet to release the teen climber’s name, but confirmed he was from LaVerkin and attended Hurricane High School.

“We would like to extend our prayers and sincere condolences to his family and friends following this tragic accident,” Hurricane PD wrote in an official statement.

The boy’s death came just eight days after a 17-year-old girl fell off a cliff while hiking in Moab.

The Moab City Police Department confirmed that around 4:00 p.m. on Feb. 10, the teen slipped and fell about 30 feet down a “steep rock face.”

Her friends called 911, but they were unable to get to the area where she fell until a search and rescue team returned to her location.

The search team found the girl dead from her injuries.

It then took the rescue team two hours to get her body back up from where she fell.

The Grand County School District later confirmed the victim was Zoe McKinney.

“The school community mourns with Zoe’s family and will offer love and support in any way we can, including the availability of therapists at the school on Monday,” the district said in an official statement, per Fox 13.

“Zoe was a remarkable student and we will honor her memory for the remainder of this senior year.”

Chief Jared Garcia of the Moab Police Department also offered his condolences to the McKinney family and the local community.

“We recognize the devastating impact the loss of a beloved young wife and friend is having on this small community, but know that wonderful people in Moab will join forces to support and comfort their family and friends during this time. “

A GoFundMe was started by the family to raise money for funeral expenses with a goal of $20,000.

“As many know, our dear sweet Zoe passed away yesterday. We would like to raise funds for her mother, Belinda Thompson, to help with funeral expenses etc. Everything will help. Thank you,” the page reads.

At the time of writing, $19,818 has been raised from 206 donations.
