The £13million lottery winner’s descent into drugs and alcohol while pictures show a vandalized mansion and mysterious powder in the fridge

A plumber who won £13million in the lottery has squandered his fortune after falling into a destructive spiral of alcohol and drugs.

Joshua Winslet was just 22 when he won the Powerball jackpot in 2017 and left his job as a trader to pursue a life of debauchery.

The filthy rich Aussie blew his millions in just three years, despite his parents managing his profits through a trust fund.

He managed to access enough money to fund his “hedonistic” lifestyle, which led to him becoming “hopelessly addicted to drugs.”

Shocking images released by SA District Court of his ransacked New Port mansion offer a worrying insight into his self-indulgence.

Empty liquor bottles, bongs and bags of MDMA, cocaine and marijuana were strewn around the bachelor pad, The Advertiser reported.

The house was left in “appalling” condition, with nitrous oxide canisters, cigarettes and half-empty wine glasses strewn on a marble table.

A mysterious white powder was found in a large bowl in his fridge, alongside a pack of Red Bull cans and crates of beer.

Another image shows a chaotic jumble of trash and clothing lying on the floor next to an electronic drum kit and an expansive projection screen.

Winslet also kept framed congratulations from Powerball that showed his winning post hung on a wall.

Police searched the “party house” in 2020 and found an unlicensed Mauser pistol and ammo hidden in his bathroom.

A horde of illegal substances including 28.3 grams of MDMA and 2.27 grams of cocaine were also seized.

Police had received a tip that the lottery winner was manufacturing drugs on the property after he became notorious among drug users who viewed him as a “free rider”.

Winslet, now 27, pleaded guilty to supplying MDMA and possessing a firearm without a license.

Adelaide District Court heard his life begin to unravel shortly after he won his millions.

The former plumber quit his job before buying properties in South Australia and New Zealand.

Judge Heath Barklay said Winslet subsequently “lost motivation” to live and adopted a “hedonistic lifestyle” that lapsed into regular drug use.

He said: “Because of the money you won, there was no motivation on your part to work or do anything other than enjoy yourself.

‘WAKE-UP CALL’

“You had a lot of money so you could afford to buy large quantities of drugs, which you use yourself and pass on to your so-called friends from time to time.”

His party friends would “run amok” at his house, with one friend even storing a gun and bullets in the roof.

The judge said the firearm’s proximity to regular drug users greatly increased the chances that it could be used for “an unlawful purpose”.

The court also heard how Winslet underwent a series of surgeries as a child to treat Duane syndrome and Goldenhar syndrome.

Duane syndrome occurs when the eye muscles don’t develop properly, resulting in difficulty rolling one or both eyes outward or inward.

Goldenhar syndrome causes abnormalities in the formation of the bones of the face and head, which can result in facial asymmetry, a partially formed or missing ear, benign cysts on the eye, spinal problems, and internal organ effects.

Winslet was born with a unique horseshoe-shaped kidney and an irregular heartbeat, which prevented him from playing contact sports.

To try to correct his physical abnormalities, he underwent plastic surgery after being bullied during his school days.

The court heard how the arrest of the 27-year-old acted as a “wake-up call”.

Winslet was sentenced to three years and nine months with an 18-month non-parole period.

The sentence was suspended with a two-year suspended prison sentence for good behavior and supervision.
