‘That’s not our style’ – Thomas Tuchel says Chelsea were guilty of losing focus and concentration despite a 1-0 win over Tottenham

Thomas Tuchel criticized him Chelsea party for losing focus in their victory first Tottenham Hotspur.

The Blues won 1-0 in their second leg Carabao Cup semi-finals to advance to the aggregate final. They won the first leg 2-0 at Stamford Bridge a week ago.

Speaking after the second leg, Tuchel told BBC Radio 5 Live (via Football 365):

“We are pleased with the results. In the first half we were the better team, and we deserved to go ahead. But we lost focus and lost focus for the last 15 minutes of the first half and again in the second half.”

Antonio Conte’s Tottenham ended the game with 15 goals, 2 more than Chelsea. However, both sides only had three shots on target. The Blues have largely dominated in possession, but Tuchel feels his side are almost punished for their decline in form. He say:

“We were almost punished for our lack of focus. We played with 90%, and that’s just not our style – we shouldn’t be doing this. We had to work hard, and it wasn’t our best performance – we played better in the first leg.”

Antonio Rudiger scored the only goal of the game from Mason Mount’s corner after Spurs keeper Pierluigi Gollini put the ball on but missed. The goal helped Chelsea get 3 goals, and effectively equalized after only 18 minutes at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Previously, coach Tuchel’s army fixed a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge in the first leg semi-final. Kai Havertz scored in the 5th minute after a poor save by Spurs. Conte’s side made another mistake in the 34th minute when Ben Davies scored a humorous own goal after Japhet Tanganga’s effort to save.

Chelsea have a tough schedule in the coming weeks

Victory over Tottenham helps the Blues continue to win all 4 titles this season. Chelsea are currently second in the Premier League, 10 points behind Manchester City and will face Liverpool or Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final.

They have also made it through to the fourth round of the FA Cup, where they will meet League One’s Plymouth Argyle on February 5. However, before that clash, Tuchel’s men have some tough matches to negotiate.

Their tough run will begin with a climactic clash with Manchester City on Saturday (January 15). Failure at the Etihad Stadium could signal the end of the Blues’ fragile title hopes and help Man City have 13 points clear.

The game against Man City will be followed by a visit to Brighton, who have been above their weight this season. Chelsea will close the month with a home clash with Tottenham, who will come out to avenge their Carabao Cup defeat to London rivals.
