Many forest fires have merged to form what fire officials call a burning “complex” near Eastland, about 120 miles west of Dallas.
As of Friday morning, the fire had burned about 62.5 square miles (162 square kilometers), according to the Texas A&M Forest Service. It is only 2 percent contained and fires are burning in grasslands and bushes.
About 18,000 people live in Eastland County, where the great fire is burning.
Other smaller fires are burning in other parts of the country Texasand Thursday’s low humidity and high winds created an ideal scenario for the fires to quickly spiral out of control.
The Texas A&M Forest Service warned of an outbreak of wildfires this week because of the forecast.

‘Fire weather conditions have escalated’
He urged residents across the state to “remain weather aware and diligently practice wildfire safety throughout the rest of the week to keep their communities safe.”
Hundreds of homes were evacuated
Hundreds of homes have been evacuated and more than 38,000 acres of land burned in Texas.
About 475 homes in Gorman, Texas were evacuated as of Thursday night, and orders were also issued for Brown and Comanche counties.
No injuries reported
No injuries have been reported so far from the fire, said Kari Hines, a spokeswoman for the Texas A&M Forest Service. CNN on Friday.
There is an evacuation order
Evacuation orders were in place across several central Texas counties late Thursday, according to CNN.
Evacuation orders are in effect for parts of Eastland, Brown and Comanche counties.
Thousands of people are threatened
About 18,000 people live in Eastland County, where the massive fire continued to burn on Friday.
