Other footage appears to show guests jumping out of windows to escape the rampaging gunmen.

The motive for the attack remains unclear – but recent terrorist attacks in the city have been claimed by ISIS-K.

ISIS-K is a splinter cell of the notorious terrorist cult currently fighting the ruling Taliban in Afghanistan.

The hotel is reportedly popular with Chinese nationals.

Taliban officials confirmed they are expecting casualties from the terrorist attack – the latest in a string of attacks on Kabul.

Security forces combated the attackers with videos from the scene that clearly showed gunshots and explosions.

China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency reported that the attack took place near a Chinese guest house and that the Chinese Embassy in Kabul is closely monitoring the situation.

The embassy did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

In recent months, several bombing and shooting attacks have taken place in Afghanistan, some of which have been claimed by ISIS-K.
