Terrifying video captures the moment a man goes INTO a huge sinkhole with a hidden forest

SCARY footage shows the moment a man walks into a huge sinkhole that was only recently discovered.

Found in Leye County in south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the sinkhole, which is 630 feet deep, is so large that it has a hidden forest inside.

It is known to local residents as Shenying Tiankeng or the Abyss.

The sinkhole is 1,000 feet in length and 490 feet wide.

Chen Lixin led a cave expedition team into the giant pit on May 6.

The team of scientists and experts also found three cave entrances in the gorge.

The bottom of the sinkhole is covered with dense vegetation, including rare species of bamboo, and trees that reach nearly 130 feet tall, their branches bending toward the sunlight that filters through the cave entrances.

“I wouldn’t be surprised to know that there are species in these caves that have never been reported or described by science before,” Lixin told Live Science.

The latest discovery brings the number of sinkholes in Leye County to 30, according to the Xinhua News Agency.

The landscape style in southern China is called “karst topography” – and this is why sinkholes are so common in the area.

The sinkhole was formed from the karst landscape where soluble rocks such as limestone, dolomite, and gypsum were dissolved by groundwater, forming sinkholes along with sinking streams, caves, and springs.

The dissolution of the rock creates subterranean rooms and caverns.

Sinkholes often form in a dramatic manner as the space beneath the surface becomes too large to support the soil and there is usually a sudden collapse of the surface.

Sinkholes in urban areas can be dangerous and deadly.

In 2020, a hole in the ground opened up in the middle of a road in Xining, China, swallowing a bus, killing six people.

In November 2019, Xinhua Net reported the discovery of a massive cluster of 49 sinkholes on a 230-square-mile tract of land in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The largest of the sinkholes is 1,706 feet in diameter and 1,050 feet deep.
