Terrifying phone call between Lori Vallow and Melanie Gibb revealed as ex-girlfriend ‘admits lying to police’

A tense phone conversation between a mother, who is on trial over the alleged murder of her children, and an ex-boyfriend has been uncovered.
Melanie Gibb could be heard on the recording testifying against her former friend Lori Vallow, 49, in court.

Vallow is on trial in Idaho accused of killing her daughter Tylee, 16, and son JJ, 7, in 2019 with the help of her husband Chad Daybell, 54.
Both have pleaded not guilty.
Gibb took the witness stand Thursday and reportedly confessed to lying to law enforcement in November 2019, prior to the call between her and Vallow, according to The Idaho Statesman.
By this time, Tylee and JJ had been missing since September, and the Rexburg Police Department made their way to Vallow to locate the seven-year-old.

When questioned, Vallow told police that JJ was at the cinema with Gibb.
Gibb told prosecutors on the witness stand that JJ was actually not with her at the time, but she had told police otherwise after receiving a call from Daybell.
At first, Gibb said she was confused when her former boyfriend Vallow informed her that JJ was staying with his grandmother, Kay Woodcock, but now Daybell said otherwise.
Kay and her husband, Larry Woodcock, were the ones who originally called the police about JJ’s welfare check at the Daybell residence.
Gibb was then allegedly asked by Daybell to lie to law enforcement, she said.
“I wasn’t sure what on earth I was supposed to do,” she told the judges.
Gibb testified that she initially falsely confirmed to law enforcement that JJ was with her and that she had returned him to Vallow.
She later told authorities that this was not the truth.
VOLTAGES RISING
A short time later, on December 8, 2019, Gibb decided to record her phone conversation between her and Vallow regarding the suspicious scenario.
The recording, which played for the jury on Thursday, heard Gibb demanding the truth about why she was told to lie to the police.
“I was wondering what happened,” Gibb Vallow asked during the call.
“I had to move [JJ] elsewhere because of their (Kay Woodcock) actions,” the accused killer replied.
Gibb then asked if JJ was safe, to which Vallow replied, “He’s safe and happy.”
The couple then began discussing the scriptures, and Gibb told Vallow and Daybell that she believed they had been tricked “by Satan.”
She explained the beliefs surrounding the deaths of Tammy Daybell (Chad’s former wife) and Charles Vallows (Lori’s former husband).
“I believed you were greatly deceived by Satan,” Gibb said.
“I thought he set you up.”
Vallow and Daybell argued that they “stand here with Jesus Christ” and that Tammy allegedly got sicker before she died.
Additionally, the couple’s religious beliefs had previously been questioned by several former friends.
They first met in the summer of 2019 at the Prepare A People conference in Arizona.
One even told Brian Entin about it news nation that the mother “believed her children were cockroaches controlled by a parasite because the cult taught them that”.
Gibb noted that Vallow often referred to her children as “zombies.”
‘LET’S TALK ABOUT ZOMBIES’
Vallow’s attorney, John Thomas, initiated the conversation while he was questioning Gibb.
“Let’s talk zombies,” he said.
Gibb claimed on the witness stand that Vallow and Daybell began naming people they believed had “dark spirits” zombies before their children went missing in late 2019.
She further testified that Vallow eventually believed Tylee and JJ were zombies because of their dark spirits.
About the last time Gibb said she saw JJ alive, according to her statement, was when Vallow started calling her seven-year-old son a zombie.
The former girlfriend at the booth added that Vallow had told her that JJ climbed on closets and fridges and said phrases like “I love Stan.”
However, JJ was diagnosed with autism, so Gibb told the court the seven-year-old’s behavior did not appear to be abnormal.
HORROR FUND
Then, on September 22, 2019, Gibb said the last time she saw JJ was when Alex Cox, Vallow’s brother, took the boy upstairs to his bed.
Law enforcement found the bodies of JJ and Tylee months later in June 2020 — both had been buried in Daybell’s Idaho backyard.
According to authorities, Tylee’s remains were dismembered and cremated.
As for JJ, prosecutors showed pictures of the seven-year-old’s remains, which were found wrapped in a black plastic bag that had been cut open multiple times.
“We started to find burned flesh and decomposing bones,” Rexburg Police Detective Ray Hermosillo said in court Tuesday.
“We had to take turns digging because the smell was so bad.”
Vallow and Daybell have both pleaded not guilty to JJ and Tylee’s murder charges, along with their separate charges of alleged involvement in the murders of Tammy Daybell and Charles Vallow.
