Haunting footage shows the moment the suspected gunman stalked the Robb Elementary School building in Uvalde, Texas, before killing 14 children and a teacher.
Governor Greg Abbott on Tuesday named 18-year-old Salvador Ramos as the suspected gunman.
“He shot 14 students and killed a teacher in a horrific and incomprehensible manner,” Abbott said in a news conference.
Also, 13 children are being treated at the Uvalde Memorial along with a 45-year-old man who suffered an “abrasive wound,” Abbott said.
The suspect also allegedly fatally shot his grandmother before entering the school.
Two officers were not critically injured, the governor said.
University Health in San Antonio said they received two other patients from the shooting, a child and an adult.
The San Antonio-based hospital said the adult is a 66-year-old woman and the child is a 10-year-old girl, both in critical condition.
Corresponding ABCtwo other adult victims were treated at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.
“We currently have no condition for release,” the hospital said in a statement to the outlet.
The shooting is the worst elementary school shooting since Sandy Hook in 2012.
A shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School killed 17 teenagers and injured 17 others after suspected gunman Nikolas Cruz opened fire on students and staff on Valentine’s Day 2018.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said President Joe Biden was briefed on the shooting and continues to be briefed on the incident.
“President Biden has been briefed on the horrific news of the Texas elementary school shooting and will continue to be briefed as information becomes available,” she said in a statement.
“His prayers are with the families affected by this terrible event and he will speak tonight when he arrives back at the White House.”
Footage taken near the school showed the suspected gunman approaching the building while what appeared to be gunfire went off in the background.
The video was shared on social media as worried parents ran to school in search of their children.
The suspected gunman engaged in a shootout with Border Patrol agents before barricading himself inside the school. Police later confirmed that he died.
Authorities confirmed the suspect acted alone and the children were killed and injured are in between third, fourth and fifth grade.
“There is one active shooter at Robb Elementary. The police are on site.” That was announced by the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District at the time. “Your cooperation is required at this time by not visiting campus. As more information becomes available, it will be shared.”
Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin initially said FoxNews that the shooting took place off campus, but the alleged shooter ran into the school and barricaded himself inside.
The school has since been evacuated and there is a heavy police presence in the area.
