Terrible 5.9-magnitude earthquake hits Greek resort islands while tremors rattle Rhodes, Cyprus and Crete

A POWERFUL 5.9 magnitude earthquake has struck the Greek island of Rhodes – with tremors in Cyprus and Crete.
The quake struck just after 12.30pm off the coast of Rhodes, the European Mediterranean Seismological Center said.

Tremors were felt as far away as Cyprus and Crete.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
The epicenter of the underwater quake was nearly 400km southeast of Athens and 58km southeast of the town of Lindos in Rhodes, the Athens Geodynamic Institute said.
The earthquake was also felt in nearby Turkey.
According to HaberTurk TV, the tremors sparked panic in Mugla province as people stormed out of buildings.
Located in a highly seismically active region, Greece and Turkey experience hundreds of earthquakes each year.
The vast majority do not cause injury or damage.
