Tensions heat up as the Proud Boys protest Brooklyn’s Trans Visibility Day at a park named after a key activist

JUST a day after Transgender Day of Visibility, a protest has broken out in a Brooklyn park named after a famous transgender activist.
Members of the Proud Boys arrived at Marsha P. Johnson State Park Saturday holding American flags, photos of Nashville school gunner Audrey Hale and signs that read “Stop promoting gender dysmorphia in children.”

Marsha P. Johnson was an American gay liberation advocate remembered for her leadership during the Stonewall riots.
She was also a self-proclaimed drag queen, known by the name Malcolm Michaels.
The Proud Boys’ presence in the park attracted many police officers, who quickly worked to contain the scene and keep the streets clear of passers-by.
In one video, a member of the Proud Boys organization shouted demands into a microphone from behind a fenced off area cordoned off by police.

The protesters brought up a smorgasbord of issues, one of which was Attorney General Letitia James’ Drag Story Hour.
According to reports from the New York Post, the event triggered massive protests in the West Village a few weeks ago.
Among other complaints, he was heard addressing “officials being fired for not vaccinating”.
Shortly after arriving at the event, the same speaker was caught on video during a confrontation with another man.
A police officer intervened after the two men got up and the Proud Boys representative was heard yelling at him.
A separate argument ensued when another member of the Proud Boys allegedly spat in another’s direction.
Counter-demonstrators could be heard in the background shouting “Go home!” to the alt-right group.
The Proud Boys, a conglomerate of far-right activists, have previously described themselves as an all-male “Western chauvinist” club.
They are classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).
Recently, it has emerged that the organization’s focus has shifted to LGBTQ+ issues.
According to Business Insider, the Proud Boys held or attended an average of one anti-LGBTQ protest per week in 2022.
Their last meeting came the day after Transgender Visibility Day, dedicated to celebrating transgender people and raising awareness of the discrimination they face.
