Tearful Adele Roberts takes top honors at the Diva Awards amid a cancer battle when friend Kate blows her a kiss

ADELE Roberts was overcome with emotion as she received a prestigious gong tonight.

The Radio 1 DJ was honored with the Diva Choice Award at the Diva Awards at London’s Waldorf Hilton Hotel.

Chosen by the Diva Magazine team, Adele was described as “a pioneer in broadcasting bringing lesbian visibility to the heart of Radio 1”.

The surprise brought Adele to tears and she proudly held up her trophy after returning from the stage.

Delighted girlfriend Kate Holderness planted a kiss on her partner’s head as they posed for photos.

Adele leaned back at her table and said: “I can’t believe it. cry tears of joy. What an amazing surprise and honor.

“I’m having the best night ever. I’m sorry if my face looks messy because I just cried. I got a diva award.

“It means the world. Thank you.”

The annual ceremony aims to inspire lesbian,
bisexual, trans, intersex and queer women and non-binary people.

The evening’s other winners included Suranne Jones, who won Celebrity Ally of the Year, Lucy Spraggan, who won Musician of the Year, and Sandi Toksvig, who won Media Personality of the Year.

Adele’s victory was all the more special given that she bravely battled colon cancer last year.

The 42-year-old revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer in an Instagram post a month after the disease was discovered.

She went under the knife last October to have part of her bowel removed and begin chemotherapy.

Girlfriend Kate, 37, recently posted a video documenting the radio star’s painful experience and showing her sobbing in hospital.

Other clips showed Adele struggling to walk up the stairs after her chemotherapy treatment, wearing a hospital gown and socks.

Despite it all, Adele remained determined and tonight was able to celebrate all the good she has done for the LGBTQI community.
