THOUSANDS of teachers could be eligible for bonuses of up to $5,000 each as schools put in place incentives to prevent them from quitting.

It comes after exhausted teachers quit or retired as schools moved teaching online during the pandemic, leading to staff shortages in some states.

In one survey conducted in January and February 2021 by Rand Corp — a nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization — reports that one in four American teachers has considered quitting.

Alpine School District

Utah are offering their teachers in virtual settings $300 per student above a class size limit of 30 students.

Detroit Public Schools Community

In Michigan, the city of Detroit is offering $500 per quarter to teachers while also providing blended, face-to-face, face-to-face, and virtual instruction services to students.

Howard County Public Schools

Maryland will provide teachers “who are free and willing to volunteer as an alternative during their daily preparation time” compensation of $55 for each period of preparation.

This is approximately 60% higher than the equivalent maximum hourly wage the district pays for substitute teachers.

Onslow County School

In North Carolina, Onslow County School said it will invest approximately $6 million to provide approximately $3,600 in two retention bonus payments.

Randolph County Public Schools

The Randolph County Public Schools System is another school system located in North Carolina, and they are offering each district employee a $5,000 bonus.
