Target ‘price-gouging’ exposed with ‘shrunken’ gift wrap surging to $4.50 and ‘bad’ breakfast item costing more

A TIKTOKER has taken to social media to expose “price gouging” in stores.

Target was featured in the latest clip on the social media platform, showing how prices have increased while product sizes have decreased.

TikToker @__tiktokdetective__ shared a video that “investigates extreme price gouging in stores.”

“Why is everything so damn expensive?” the TikToker asked his followers.

First, she showed the price and size of a roll of wrapping paper at Target, which is on sale for $4.50, but is a much smaller roll than usual.

“Look at how small these roles are,” she told viewers.

“I mean, you could probably wrap two presents with that, even though it’s really cute.”

It also showed that gift bag prices increased between $3.75 and $7.00 depending on size.

For almost the same price as a roll of wrapping paper, the TikToker purchased a limited edition Acorn Spice Myers hand soap for $4.89.

The self-proclaimed detective then went to the cereal aisle to criticize the ever-shrinking breakfast items.

She picked up a box of Reese’s Puffs and said, “Okay, this happens in every store.”

“These cereal boxes are so tiny, but this one is especially tiny. I know it’s a bad cereal, it’s super sugary, but this is $3.99.”

Meanwhile, she found a pack of mini Coca-Cola for a whopping $6.29.

“Look how small this Green Goddess salad dressing is, it’s tiny,” she told viewers.

However, the avocado oil dressing and marinade costs $5.89 at Target.

Meanwhile, home bakers are also feeling the pinch, with the TikToker convinced that gold medal all-purpose flour has “gotten a lot smaller.”

She also claimed that a bag of Vigo yellow rice is “half of what it used to be” and that bags of candy for Halloween are “getting a lot smaller.”

“Costco would be a better place” for holiday snacks, she said after showing off a snack-sized bag of Reese’s White Ghosts for $4.79.

The TikToker admitted that Target “has always been expensive, but the price gouging is what I want to show you.”

“It happens everywhere.”

Viewers agreed with the TikToker, saying: “Tickets are like $4 so I’m going to Dollar Tree… 50 cents.”

“My huge bag of all the gift bags I’ve saved over the years is finally going to pay off,” wrote another.

The TikToker added that she found a greeting card at the store for $8.95.

Other viewers said to her, “Can we talk about the outrageous prices at Amazon?” as he called out other stores, including Walmart.

Another added: “Sometimes I get lucky with specialty foods and the Target brand is good on some foods, but yes, there is more price gouging on other things.”

The US Sun has reached out to Target for comment.
