Swimmer dies after losing consciousness in the water during the Swansea Triathlon as competitors watched in horror

A SWIMMER has died after losing consciousness in the water during the Swansea Triathlon – in front of the horrified eyes of the participants.
Emergency services and the public tried to help the athlete who passed out during the swim portion of the day-long event in Swansea.
A statement from Activity Events Wales said: “It is with a heavy heart that we confirm the death of an athlete in the swim portion of today’s triathlon.”
“Our sincere condolences go to the family.
“We would like to thank the incredible efforts of the Swimming Safety Team, St. John’s, the Ambulance, the Rapid Response Team, the Police, the volunteers and the public involved at the scene.”
Around 1,500 people took part in the grueling event this morning, which included a 750m swim, 20km bike ride and 5km run.
