If you’re looking to use your Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to buy groceries this month, the additional funds can now be used online.
Individuals eligible for SNAP benefits can receive funds loaded onto their EBT cards and use online payments.
Pilot programs using the online EBT card began in 2017 and are now available in nearly all U.S. states at USDA-approved retailers, FL1 News explain.
And some of the retailers participating in the program are Amazon, FreshDirect, InstaCart, ShopRite and Walmart.
It’s important to check which retailers accept EBT cards both in-store and online, as not all allow internet purchases.
Additionally, individuals using EBT cards online may have to pick up their purchased items in person.
SNAP benefits can be used on products, meats, dairy products, seafood, breads, snacks, cereals, non-alcoholic beverages, and seeds or food plants.
Meanwhile, more than three dozen states and territories have Extended emergency food stamp support.
The extension comes as Covid The pandemic continues across the country.
Back in April 2021, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that an additional $1 billion per month had been allocated to the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP). This program is also more widely known as food stamps.
These funds provide increased benefits to approximately 25 million people in low-income households who are struggling to put food on the table due to the continuation of Pandemic caused by covid-19.
Although the amount of extra money eligible families can receive often depends on family size, $95 is the minimum amount that households must receive.
The $95 raise is scheduled to expire September 30, 2021; however, some states have expanded currency support.
Here are the 36 states and two territories that have chosen to extend benefits through January 2022:
- District of Columbia
- New Hampshire
- New shirt
- New Mexico
- North Carolina
- Rhode Island
- South Carolina
- West Virginia
Other states may choose to acknowledge the February benefit extension.
Who is eligible for food stamps?
According to USDA Food and Nutrition Services, the average SNAP benefit per household in 2021 is $210.07 a month.
However, benefit amounts and a person’s eligibility vary from state to state.
In addition to SNAP, Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) offers 15 nutritional assistance programs.
