PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The sun is shining!
alarm: First alert weather day for Wednesday morning due to the possibility of freezing rain/rain/snow, particularly north of PIT
Deliberately: Might mix some thunder early Thursday and some rain/snow early Friday
We need the sun to warm us up as we missed hitting a record low of 1 degree on Tuesday morning. The record low is 13 and we’ve dropped to 14 degrees.
This comes after we set a record low of just 27 degrees yesterday – the old record was 30 – and we are now record-breaking as the eighth snowiest March in Pittsburgh.
Temperatures will soar into the 40s under sunny skies on Tuesday and warmer air will swing along with more humidity on Wednesday. Some of this may arrive as temperatures drop to near freezing overnight and could result in a brief freezing rain/rain/snow mix, particularly north of Pittsburgh. That’s why we issued a First Alert Weather Day for Wednesday morning because of possible icy roads.
The national weather service issued a winter weather advisory from midnight to noon on Wednesday. Counties include Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Forest, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, and Washington, and the ridges of Fayette and Westmoreland. Parts of Ohio and West Virginia are also affected.
Most of the area should have full rain by 8am, and temperatures will soar into the 60s by the afternoon.
Warmth will hold on Thursday with a few morning rolls of thunder and some showers before more ‘normal’ temperatures arrive on Friday and stay in the upper 40s to low 50s for the weekend.
