Stunning Spanish village offers Brits three months free rent and low cost of living when they move there

A SMALL village in the Spanish countryside offers Brits free rent and cheap housing to move there and there’s no catch.

The stunning village of Griegos in the mountains of north-eastern Spain does whatever it takes to survive, including paying new residents.

The village currently has only 132 registered residents and faced with rapid depopulation, has had to resort to more drastic measures to attract new suitors.

Griegos offers new residents new jobs along with three months of free rent in hopes they will bring the village back to life.

You have to be a family with kids, though, as it’s hoped the new residents will help save the local school, which has just nine students and plans for a second grade.

At the end of the three months the rent rises to £198 but with a discount of £44 for each school-age child you bring.

The local council is willing to spend money to attract new residents as property prices and the population have fallen dramatically in recent years.

In the Spanish countryside, many villages and towns have suffered from the exodus of their residents to new places and towns.

With no residents, essential services such as schools and shops have had to close, further fueling the crisis dubbed “shrinking Spain”.

The result has been a littering of ghost towns across the country – a tragedy that local governments are desperate to prevent.

Griegos is one such initiative to try and stem the shrinkage and other local councils will look to the initiative to test the waters.

With its traditional architecture, picturesque churches and beautiful countryside, it is incredibly alluring.

Also, the cost of living there is far cheaper than in busier areas of the country.

Elsewhere, a Swiss village is offering people £50,000 to move there, but there’s a big catch.

Or a sunny Italian island is offering Brits £13,000 to move there – but that’s not all it has to say.
