And there is also outrage following claims that the man in charge of VAR for the Premier League clash is also from the city.

The Gunners meet United and are aiming for SIX wins from six to start the season.

But fans of Mikel Arteta’s side go into the game with skepticism.

Not only have United won three of their own games, some Arsenal supporters are unhappy with the choice of officials.

It has been claimed online that referee Paul Tierney, 41, is from Salford, just down the road from Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, VAR Lee Mason hails from Bolton, which is also in Greater Manchester.

Fans took to social media to vent their anger at the dates.

One wrote: “Referee for Man Utd v Arsenal hails from Salford. Makes sense.”

Another said: “Man Utd vs Arsenal. Paul Tierney from Manchester, the Manchester VAR referee. We already know how it ends.”

A third was furious: “Can’t wait to see Paul Tierney, from Salford, Manchester, give a totally unbiased performance tomorrow when Arsenal travel to Manchester United.”

And one asked: “How can you get Paul Tierney and Lee Mason, Manchester officials, to referee a game with a Manchester team?”

Despite claims that Tierney hails from Salford, the referee was actually born in Wigan.

Although the city is still in Greater Manchester and only 20 odd miles from Old Trafford.

Mason also has a short journey to get to the game as Bolton is just over 10 miles from United’s home.

The 50-year-old was at the center of controversy again today when he was in charge of VAR for Newcastle’s game against Crystal Palace.

Toon had disallowed a goal over a foul by Joe Willock, although Palace star Tyrick Mitchell appeared to be the culprit after Mason advised referee Michael Salisbury to consult the monitor.
