WGN’s December teacher is hitting all the right notes for the students in her choir.

Diana Harrigan is the choir director at Bloom High School in Chicago Heights.

“I’m actually an alumnus of Bloom High School,” she said. “It was basically here in this building that I decided I wanted to dedicate my life to music education.”

Students say she can be strict about their vocals and movements but she also makes sure they know they belong.

“I want them to leave with a sense of community building relationships that last,” she said. “Infuse them with the value of teamwork, leadership, taking on the responsibility of learning music, learning choreography and just having a good time doing it. And they became a family. ”

Award sponsor Ankin Law presented her with a check for $1,000 to the school.

Harrigan says the money will be used for choir uniforms.

“We definitely prefer to brighten and sparkle so we can let our light shine through,” she says.
