Streets outside White House clear due to ‘suspicious backpacks’ during protests in Ukraine after Russia’s invasion

LAFAYETTE Square outside the White House was closed due to an individual wearing a suspicious backpack.
The area was cleared as protesters gathered in support of Ukraine after the Russian invasion.
DC police assisted the Secret Service in handling the situation, the Urban Department’s Communications Office told The Sun on Sunday.
A DCFD spokesman also confirmed they were assisting with the investigation.
The individual is said to have been detained.
Videos posted on Twitter appear to show an Secret Service directing people to stay off the streets.
A Twitter claiming to be present in this area wrote: “Currently standing at positions 17 and H, at least one block of houses in all directions is closed to vehicles, people continue to walk a neighborhood near the public park. members of Lafayette, they were then diverted to Connecticut.”
The Sun has reached out to the Secret Service for comment.
