Stranger Things stage play among the Duffer Brothers’ projects in the works

We already know that stranger things is ending, but that doesn’t mean the universe is over. In fact, the Duffer Brothers and Netflix are far from done with the blockbuster franchise.

A spinoff series is in the works, albeit in a very early stage of development, and now Netflix has announced that Matt and Ross Duffer will be staying with their new production company, aptly named Upside Down Productions, for a long time to come. Among the most interesting announcements is the news that Hilary Leavitt (ozark, orphan black) will join their team and lead the company.

In addition to working on the spin-off, Upside Down Productions will a stranger things Stage Play is now in development on Netflix too!

Stranger Things is getting a play on Netflix

We don’t know too much about the play yet, just that it will be set in the world and mythology of stranger things. Does that mean we could see cinematic versions of characters like Eleven, Dustin, Mike or Lucas? Dustin actor Gaten Matarazzo is already a Broadway star, maybe he can reprise his role on stage!

It doesn’t sound like the play will be a musical as that word isn’t used anywhere in the press release. But we do know that the play was produced by multi-award-winning producers Sonia Friedman and Stephen Daldry (The crown, Billy Elliott, The reader). 21 Laps will serve as associate producer.

Stranger Things is one of many popular films and franchises to get the theatrical treatment. Other notable projects receiving stage adaptations include Naturally blond, Harry Potter, carrie, Mathilde, heather and so many more.

I wonder if Riverdale would have adjusted that stranger things game for their season theatrical production had the show continued?
