stranger things Season 4 Part 1 ended with some cliffhangers and some shocking revelations. Nancy is still upside down and under Vecna’s spell. Henry Creel is Hawkins lab guard Peter Ballard who is 001 who is also Vecna! And Eleven either created or opened a gateway to the Upside Down sooner than we thought. It’s not 100% clear yet. Hopefully this will be answered directly in Volume 2.
An interesting revelation that gets the wheels spinning in our heads is the fact that The Upside Down is actually frozen in time. It’s stuck on November 6, 1983, the day Will disappeared in Season 1. Nancy finds this out when she sees that her alternate dimension diary entries end on that date.
Since El sent 001 years before Will was kidnapped to the Upside Down, we know the monster-filled world has been around for at least that long. So what is the meaning of this specific date? We’ll have to wait until next season to find out!
Stranger Things season 5 to explain why Upside Down is frozen in time
In a recent interview with Variety, Matt and Ross Duffer, aka the Duffer Brothers, revealed that season five will be immersed in the story of The Upside Down. That includes how it works, what the monster hierarchy is, and all the other questions we’ve been asking ourselves about how that other spooky dimension works.
One of our biggest questions from Season 4 is why the alternate world is frozen in time and why specifically on the day Will went missing. Well, the Duffers shared that there’s a reason for this, and sadly, that won’t be resolved in the last two episodes that are coming. Frozen time and what it means will play into Season 5 and what they have planned for this story. You can get their answer at around 11:14 p.m., which we’ve conveniently shared below.
