Due to the pandemic, millions of dollars have been added to childcare relief programs to help families.
A program in Texas is offering $500 childcare vouchers to families with up to three children, for a total of $1,500.
The problem is, providers are saying parents aren’t taking advantage of the situation, and it may be because many don’t know that there are too many programs available to them.
Arun Singh, CEO of Kids R Kids, a daycare centre, said he was surprised that more and more people were using these programmes.
“Somehow I don’t know if the criteria are too strict or people don’t know about it.”
More than 700 children in Fort Bend County, Texas received gift certificates, but community leaders say it’s still $1 million to be distributed.
The gift certificate is also not a disposable thing, families can get three months of babysitting assistance. Meaning a family with three children can get $4,500 in support.
And the program has only given out $715,000 to date, helping more than 737 children.
However, some families may receive payments as early as 2022 as the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has not completed sending the third installment of the Economic Impact Payments.

The final check will be taken when eligible taxpayers file their 2021 tax returns next spring.
Eligible recipients will include parents of children born in 2021, but they must file a tax return first.
Some parents who apply for more recent checks may see a larger lump sum, such as if they missed payments from previous months and applied by the November 15 deadline to receive payments before end of the school year.
According to the CTC, families with children under the age of six receive a payment of $3,600 in 2021—with $1,800 of that being sent via monthly check, or $300 per month.
