Steve Aoki tells us about some big tracks that rocked HiROQUEST in Ibiza

STEVE AOKI is one of the most successful cross-genre artists in the world.

As well as his love of cake tossing, the Grammy-nominated music producer, DJ, artist, fashion designer and NFT visionary last year celebrated the 25th anniversary of his groundbreaking Dim Mak label.

After a fabulous summer season in Ibiza this year with his HiROQUEST residency at legendary superclub Amnesia, he has just released his new album HiROQUEST: Genesis.

HiROQUEST: Genesis features collaborations from Taking Back Sunday, Kane Brown, PnB Rock, Georgia Ku, Bryce Vine, Santa Fe Klan, Lil Xan, Goody Grace and more.

“The music is a web of connection to this universe that I’m creating,” explains Aoki. “This album tells a fantastic story, but it’s also about freedom from constraints. I went straight back to my roots – to that raw rock energy, and that became the basis for it. From there I started exploring

everything and it has evolved into so many different genres.”

HiROQUEST: Genesis’ songs span five chapters, each detailing a different mythological faction, and the album opens the door to fans into a vast world that blends the music with a new collectible card game co-developed with MetaZoo Games.

which Aoki co-founded and launched in March 2021.

We caught up with Steve this week to celebrate the release of the new long player and asked him to share with us ten big tracks that got him going in his DJ sets this summer.

Steve Aoki – Movie Star with MOD SUN & Global Dan

“Movie Star” is a record that you think of when you’re a kid and you’re going through high school and you’re dealing with all these different things and you have these dreams and aspirations. This is a song you just want to jam along to all the time.

Steve Aoki & KAAZE – Whole Again with John Martin

For me, “Whole Again” is the ultimate EDM summer anthem. This brings out all the feelings. I went back to the EDM sound of the early 2010s, something I miss so much, so I’m glad we revisited that sound.

Steve Aoki & HRVY – Save Me

This one is like fine wine – great melody and great vocals. HRVY’s voice is just amazing and I made sure the drop matched his vocals perfectly. I remember testing it out at Tomorrowland Winter and it just took off so love this one.

Steve Aoki & Grandson – KULT with Jasiah

I love this one because the drop is fiery and loud. It has EDM elements but also really strong alternative, kind of punk, roots

in there so you can hear the guitar, you can hear the chug,…that kind of harshness. It’s all about that unbridled energy!

Steve Aoki & Sante Fe Klan – Ultimate with Snow The Product

It’s all about reggaeton here and I love it. It performs really hard in the clubs and the Santa Fe Klan and Snow Tha Product just killed it with their verses. It’s just a huge party.

QUIX – Enter with caution, with Alix Robson

I love this combination of drum & bass with British pianos from New Zealand DJ/producer QUIX, with an incredible voice from UK’s Alix Robson.

Slushii, Nitro Fun & Bok Nero – Push It

Slushii is one of the most talented producers I know, and this track, featuring longtime Dim Mak stablemate Bok Nero, has a great house vibe for any season.

Aveilla-SOLO

Aveilla has a very unique vocal tone and this is a solid dance/pop crossover record with a great drop!

David Guetta vs. Benny Benassi – Satisfaction

A great update for 2022 – and a track that rocked my sets during my residency in Ibiza this summer.

Strange mob – left to right

A big underground track that sweeps across genres and will be like ACRAZE’s “Do It To It”.
