The parents of a nine-year-old boy who was repeatedly “smashed in the head” have been charged in connection with the boy’s death.
The Fort Wayne Police Department reported that Elijah Thomas Ross’ mother, Jenna Mae Miller, 36, and stepmother Alesha Lynn Miller, 30, were arrested following his death last Saturday.
Authorities allege that the couple were unable to intervene and provide their son with the much-needed medical help he requested after a series of brutal attacks.
According to court documents, the nine-year-old got into a fight with his brother while the two parents attended a Christmas party.
But when they returned, they reported that the fight had “got out of hand” leaving Elisha breathless.
The couple immediately took the boy to Lutheran Downtown Hospital, postponing blaming his siblings.
However, he tragically died about 4 hours later, despite the best efforts of the medical staff.
An autopsy later determined that the child had suffered “multiple bruises” on the back, face, buttocks and genitals most likely caused by a belt or large paddle.
In addition, his body was described as “cold and flaccid” with signs of severe arthritis.
The boy’s brother later told police that his stepmother regularly arrests Elizabeth – often “smashing him to the ground” and “kissing him with oars,” according to the report. New York Post Office.
Alesha would also instruct her siblings to “beat him” and make him sit in the corner before she turned around and resumed the alleged abuse.
After police arrested the couple, they recovered a white leather belt and a large wooden paddle with a broken handle – matching the autopsy descriptions.
They have since been charged with multiple counts of fatal omission as stepmother Alesha faced an additional deadly battery.
A hearing is set for December 29.
