He was at the Los Angeles studios while covering the NBA playoffs for the network.

However, the LA Lakers’ elimination in the playoffs forced him to return to his job in New York.

Fiery Stephen A. teased the Friday show’s themes before asking star presenter Molly: “How are you Molly?”

Qerim, 39, replied: “Hey!”

Smith quickly barked confidently, “Don’t answer that question yet.”

“I didn’t ask you to speak while I caught my cold.”

Molly then said dejectedly, “Wow, okay.”

Then Smith yelled, “Hello, boy! woo! Let’s go.”

Fans noticed the brief but powerful interaction between Smith and Qerim.

A Twitter user posted a GIF of Dr. Evil by Austin Powers reading “Zip It” and captioning, “I didn’t ask you to speak during my cold opening.” [laughing emoji] @stephenasmith to @mollyqerim.

Another said: “This show is hilarious!”

And a third added: “Lmao this is great.”

Molly and Stephen A. returned to First Take on Monday after their sudden absence last week.

And Smith continues to be at full steam on “First Take.”

On Tuesday, the 55-year-old said, “I have to do something right” as NBA analyst JJ Redick denounced his lack of basketball experience in a heated segment.
