Star Wars: The Return of the Opening Crawl

In conversation with Weekly entertainmentLucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy revealed that opening creep is returning war of stars theater films. “The crawl is coming back,” she said when asked if the Rey-directed film would feature it. They then asked if this was the only film we could expect a crawl for; She replied: “No. The crawl is for movies.” Expanding on the Rey movie announcement, Kennedy offered the following:

“As we move into future space — that story is about 15 years away The Rise of Skywalker – Obviously we recognized the rise of the New Jedi Order after the war and after the First Order. We left Episode 9 where Ray promised Luke Skywalker that she would rebuild the Jedi Order. So here we are – we’re ready to do this. And it took a lot of discussion because obviously we’ve been developing stories in different areas and television has been a big focus of our attention at the moment. But there’s still so much interest in what happens after that The Rise of Skywalker. So we are happy to do that.”

She then hints at the possibility of other characters from the continuation of the era appearing in the Rey film. She also says that Dave Filoni’s Mando-verse highlight film is more than a crossover of those shows and asks if the galaxy wants the Jedi back.

Star Wars crawl

I don’t care if this movie has a crawl; It’s about characters I don’t like or don’t feel invested in. I find the part about Rey’s promise hilarious though. Luke essentially promised to do the same thing in the OT, and Kennedy and her goons turned that into a taunt. Why is it suddenly so important for these characters to keep their word? Because Rey is a girl, does she have to be a good role model? I also think she’s kidding herself about the excitement of what happens after-Rise of Skywalker unless she’s talking about herself and those making this film. Her insistence that Filoni’s film is “more” than a Mando crossover is not encouraging; I’m worried they’ll overdo cameos and ties like they’ve done before. I still have faith in Filoni and hope for this project, but the Rey film is DOA in my eyes.
