Two thousand families received a free turkey dinner at the “Hope for the Holidays” turkey distribution of St. Matthew’s House in Naples on Thursday.
Lisa Holliday never thought she would end up with a loaf of food.
“We are usually caterers to help people,” says Holliday. “This year, it’s been really tough.”
It’s been tough for her whole family, including her mom and dad, Carol and Randy Every.
“My husband had a stroke, I had a heart attack, and my daughter had fibromyalgia. We all have limited incomes,” Carol said.
The family was one of 2,000 people who received a turkey dinner from St. Matthews. Families received turkeys, side dishes and other necessary cooking supplies.
“If it weren’t for this, I think we wouldn’t have had a turkey dinner, we wouldn’t have had anything in the pantry,” Carol said.
Matthews said the coronavirus crisis continues to affect families especially as food prices soar, so this Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Monday, is all the more needed during the pandemic.
