McLaughlin is a “persistent” offender, which authorities say makes his arrest a felony.

He was arrested on December 4 after failing a sobriety test at a St. Louis County traffic stop.

“I’ve spent the last few days contemplating my steps to take care of my health and the well-being of my family and myself,” McLaughlin said in a statement to FOX 2.

“I have come to the conclusion that I need to focus solely on my ongoing recovery and that of my wife and children (four).”

In a joint statement, the Cardinals and the show’s production company said, “Dan McLaughlin will not be returning as the Cardinals’ TV play-by-play announcer on Bally Sports Midwest.

“Dan has been the voice of unforgettable Cardinals moments for 24 years. We thank him for his contributions to Cardinals baseball, to Cardinals fans, and for his many charitable endeavors.”

A persistent offender from DWI is someone charged with at least two prior traffic crime convictions related to poisoning, FOX 2 reported, citing Missouri law.

McLaughlin’s first arrest was in 2010 for drunk driving.

Thirteen months later, he was arrested for DWI after a car accident.

After his second arrest, he said there were “no excuses”.

He was suspended from the broadcast booth in 2012 and missed out on winning the Cardinal’s World Series.

McLaughlin’s next hearing for the crime is scheduled for February 3.

McLaughlin has been the Cardinals’ play-by-play announcer since 2000.

He also spent time as a broadcaster covering the NFL for Fox Sports.

The Cardinals will unveil a new announcer on December 22nd.
