Spotle is a musical guessing game in which players have to guess an artist from Spotify’s list of 1,000 most streamed artists.

The goal is to find the correct answer by entering different artists and using process of elimination to guess the correct answer. The You have to guess less To find the right artist, your Spotle score will be even higher!

You can find the correct artist by analyzing a grid of color-coded boxes that appear after each guess. Each of these boxes tells you whether your last guess is closer to the actual answer.

There are five attributes that Spotle informs you about when you enter an answer:

  • Year of debut album: The year the artist released his first album.
  • Group size: The number of people in the artist group.
  • Listener rank: The ranking of artists on Spotify, measured by total number of streams.
  • Gender: The gender of the artist.
  • Genre: The genre of music the artist is best known for.
  • Nationality: The artist’s nationality.

When you enter an artist’s name in the answer box, each of these attributes will be evaluated. When the field is displayed Green, which means the correct answer has the same attribute as the artist you just entered. When the field is displayed Yellowthat means your previous answer was close to the attribute of the correct answer.

The only thing left to note about these boxes are arrows. A downward arrow means the answer number is lower. Conversely, an up arrow means the answer attribute is higher.

For example, when the answer to Spotle was Fleetwood Mac, I started my game by typing Arctic Monkeys. Fleetwood Mac released their first album in 1968, while Arctic Monkeys released their first in 2006. Therefore, a downward arrow appeared in the box of the debut album.

However, Arctic Monkeys and Fleetwood Mac’s listener ranks are fairly close, so the box appeared yellow. No other attributes between the two bands were similar or shared, so they remained gray.
