Although he has since apologized for his actions, Rubiales has been asked to resign due to severe criticism of his behavior.

He was seen holding Hermoso as he kissed her on the lips during the trophy presentation after Spain’s win over England.

Hermoso has now called for punishment, saying her union Futpro will “defend my interests”.

In the statement released on Wednesday with her union and agency, Hermoso said: “My union Futpro, in coordination with my agency TMJ, takes care of defending my interests and acting as interlocutor on this matter.”

Futpro added: “We are working to ensure that acts like the ones we have seen never go unpunished, that they are sanctioned and that exemplary measures are put in place to protect women footballers from acts that we consider unacceptable.”

The midfielder previously revealed on Instagram that she “didn’t like” Rubiales’ actions.

However, in a statement later released on her behalf, his behavior was defended.

Hermoso won the Silver Ball at the tournament as Spain won their first Women’s World Cup.

She scored three goals and provided two assists on her nation’s road to the Cup.
