Southampton are getting closer to appointing the former Norwich and Rangers star as their new manager, while Selles is expected to depart after being relegated

SOUTHAMPTON are reportedly close to appointing Russell Martin.
The Saints are preparing for life in the Championship after their relegation was confirmed by last weekend’s defeat to Fulham.
Ruben Selles remains interim manager and the Spaniard is reportedly yet to be officially informed that he will leave at the end of the season.
However, Southampton have called up their replacement, according to Swansea manager Martin talkSPORT.
Martin has reportedly missed a scheduled meeting with Swansea owners this week to discuss plans for next season.
Norwich legend Martin, 37, has built a solid reputation since working as a manager.
He took the job at MK Dons in 2019 and quickly earned praise for his possession football.
After two years, Swansea came forward and he got a jump into the championship.
Although he failed to guide the Swans to promotion or play-off spots, his style of football continued to garner praise.
And it seems Southampton are convinced straight away that he is the right man to bring them back to the Prem.

Meanwhile, Darren Mowbray is expected to be appointed as the club’s new head of recruitment.
Martin will become Southampton’s fourth permanent manager in 12 months after Ralph Hasenhuttl, Nathan Jones and Telles.
