Solo developer creates racing game inspired by F-Zero

Independent developer Aaronmac64 has been working on a F-Zero Inspiring racing game called Aero GPX. While details are few and far between, the game is described as an “anti-gravity racer focused on flight and deep mechanics”.

Aaronmac64 refers to Aero GPX as a “game that pays homage to a powerful aspect of the anti-gravity racing genre that is fundamentally unplayable”. He notes “there have been some, but as a longtime fan of the F-Zero series, nothing else has ever come out that has really ‘gets’ what makes F-Zero stand out from the crowd. with everything else. Visceral, precise, fast, and responsive gameplay are the main highlights that I’ve managed to capture in my game so far. The style and design of the track also play a huge part in this (character and world, but that will happen in the future) and are aspects I also want to capture when the time comes. ”

“The way I describe it to my friends is a simple scale. On a scale of 0 (arcade-oriented gameplay with physics and a ‘gamey’ feel) to 10 (simulation-oriented gameplay with realistic physics and feel), I want my game to be at negative five. I want the game to be as arcade-oriented as possible! ”

Aero GPX looks very similar to F-Zero which is an intellectual property owned by Nintendo. The first game released for Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990 and the most recent entry in the franchise was released for Game Boy Advance in 2004. No word from Nintendo about piracy.

Aaronmac64 is careful to point out that the Aero GPX does not represent “a one-to-one copy of the F-Zero. I wanted this to be my own twist on F-Zero’s style of play, capturing what I feel are its most important aspects while still making a difference. I’m taking this approach because I intend to make this my own complete game more than anything else. “

Aero GPX is currently in pre-alpha, but Aaronmac64 has released a playable version of the game. “I’ve been working on my love letter to the F-Zero series quietly in the dark for the past year and a half, and I feel that now is the time to share my progress and watch everyone. think about it,” he said. “The feel of the game is super important to me and I wanted to know if I was on the right track, so I decided to release an experimental treatment. publicly to get as many responses as possible.” However, Aaronmac64 notes that development is “extremely early. Everything visual is a placeholder. All audio is a placeholder.”

Entering the pre-alpha phase comes with some caveats. Aero GPX “is only meant to run on Windows systems. Hardware requirements are quite low and can even run on most devices with only integrated graphics. However, the game is only compatible with Xinput gamepads so far”.

Aaronmac64 is open to any feedback on Aero GPX. Players can report bugs and make suggestions about website where they can also download the pre-alpha.
